My recent home upgrade in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we lacked space. I decided to search near Reading Station.

I stumbled upon the site while scrolling and sent photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens responded with a quote that felt right for the work.

The journey of planning this project was actually quite detailed. I spent many hours reflecting on the layout of the room before ever choosing up the phone. My lounge area has always felt a bit unfinished, and owning a proper zone for beverages seemed like the ideal solution to that issue. I remember standing in my kitchen staring at a cluttered surface covered with bottles and feeling that something had to change. The first conversation with the team was very straightforward, which gave me assurance. We talked various styles, from contemporary minimalist designs to something classic and wooden textures. I was quite surprised by how many information they wanted about the dimensions and the existing decor of my house. It felt like they truly desired the final product to blend perfectly with the rest of the building. I offered various angles in the images I sent, ensuring sure every nook was clear. They explained that the bespoke nature of the furniture signified that accuracy was entirely critical to prevent any problems during the installation. We went back and back on potential resources, searching at samples of laminate and different kinds of wood grain. It is amazing how much thought goes into selecting the right handles, like knobs and fittings, which can completely change the vibe of the whole build. I wanted a place where I could comfortably mix cocktails for guests without needing to constantly run back to the kitchen for ice or tools. The ease of having everything in one spot was the main driver for this investment. We settled the blueprint after a short meeting where every one of my concerns regarding wiring and electric points were addressed. I appreciated that they didn't hurry the planning phase, taking the effort to ensure that the depth of the racks was sufficient for my tallest bottles. It seemed like a collaborative effort rather than a simple sale, which is hard to locate these days.

The installation date came faster than anticipated, and the technician was on time and ready. He started by laying down safety sheets to make sure my carpet stayed clean. Watching the parts being unpacked was fascinating, as the standard of the wood was immediately obvious. He carefully verified the levels of the walls before securing the main frame of the bar. I watched as the structure slowly gained form, changing a plain corner into a functional piece. The degree of craftsmanship required in fitting the boards to the wonky surfaces of my period home was impressive. He explained why each section fitted in to create maximum strength. We spent a bit of time deciding on the final height for the built-in cooler, ensuring it was easy to open but tucked back from main view. The fitting of the worktop was the most rewarding moment of the entire day. Seeing the smooth top at last sitting on the cabinets made the vision feel to life. He then fitted the mirrored backsplash, which immediately caused the room to look twice the size. The LEDs were wired next, and checking them for the initial moment was a highlight. The warm light below the racks showcased the bottles perfectly. I could see exactly how useful this would be during evening events. The worker was highly careful, taking the effort to clean down every area and remove any debris made during the drilling. He additionally demonstrated me how to move the shelves if I ever needed to house bigger pieces. The focus to precision was truly exceptional, right down to the silicone lines around the edges. It was clear that he had great pride in his work, which is consistently reassuring to witness. We did a final walkthrough of the completed work to make everything was to standard. I observed that a single knob was slightly loose, and he fixed it immediately with a fast twist of a tool. This diligence is exactly what I was hoping for when I arranged the service.

The finished bar appears absolutely stunning and has turned into the focal point of my downstairs. It provides a sophisticated vibe that was previously lacking from my living space. The storage is huge, allowing me to organise all my spirits, sodas, and fancy glasses in one cohesive place. No longer do I need to rummage inside cramped kitchen cabinets to find a bottle opener or a certain type of glass. Everything has its proper home, which makes hosting much much simpler and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials catch the light in the evenings, making a warm ambience. My friends have now complimented the setup multiple occasions, with some even inquiring for the details of the company who built it. It truly feels like a bespoke addition made exactly for my lifestyle. The height of the surface is ideal for standing by with a drink, and the integrated lighting units provide just the right amount of glow without being too bright. Even when not in use, it works as a beautiful piece of furniture that elevates the entire aesthetic of the property. I used some effort arranging my bottles on the racks to create a visual display. The mirrored panels truly assist in showcasing the bottles and adding dimension to the tight alcove. It has inspired me to experiment making different drinks that I previously thought were too complicated to bother in a standard setting. Having the tap close might have been good, but the area constraints resulted in we decided against it to save cabinet space. This was a deliberate decision we made at the design phase, and I certainly not rue it. The extra drawer room for napkins and accessories is much more useful to me in the run period.

There were a couple of minor limitations that are fair to noting for a honest perspective. The lead period for the bespoke doors was a bit slower than I initially hoped. It lasted about six days from the first deposit to the actual installation appointment. While this is understandable for high-quality furniture, it required a some of patience on my part. I had hoped to have it ready for a certain birthday, but we missed that deadline by a week. However, the updates from the team regarding the progress were consistent, so I was not left in the unknowing. I would wait a little more for a product that is built to last than receive a rushed job that fails after a couple months. The start price estimate was additionally slightly less than the final bill, mainly because I decided to improve the handles and add more inside lights midway through the build. These changes were completely my decision, and the team was very transparent about the additional costs involved. Another minor point was the volume of boxes remaining after the fitting. Although the worker tidied up the work area perfectly, there was a significant pile of waste to get rid of in my recycling. It was not a big problem, but a thing to keep in mind if you possess little waste space. Despite these minor details, the total journey was very good. The quality of the fit is much better to anything I could have bought from a shop. It feels solid and durable, and I am sure it will handle decades of parties. I feel the value it has given to my home well exceeds the upfront outlay. It has transformed the way I enjoy my downstairs space, rendering it far more social. I not anymore sense cramped when people visit.

Thinking back on the entire experience, I am really happy I went ahead with it. The initial spark came from a trip to a friend's house in London, where they had a similar bar. I saw then how much it improved the flow of the evening. When I got back to Reading, I started researching local options and found that working with a bespoke outfit was the only way to achieve the exact look I wanted. The ability to pick each element, from the shade of the paint to the placement of the plug sockets, ensured the end result was just as I envisioned. I also got a tiny hidden drawer built for keeping valuable tools like silver spoons. This level of customisation is what makes the service special. It did not feel like a mass-produced piece being fitted into a room where it didn't fit. Instead, it feels like it has forever been a part of the architecture. If you are thinking about a like-minded domestic upgrade, my tip would be to remain calm and invest the time on the planning stage. It is far easier to change a sketch than it is to modify a unit once it is manufactured. The knowledge provided at the beginning was crucial in stopping me from doing simple errors, such as placing the fridge too near to a heat source. These little bits of wisdom are what you buy for when you hire experienced experts. I am now planning at other parts of my house to see where else I might install built-in storage. The success of this bar job has provided me the drive to tackle a larger renovation in the bedroom later year. It is a wonderful upgrade to my life, and I view forward to numerous years of using it with family and friends. Finding the proper balance between looks and use was the aim, and I think we reached it completely. The journey from a messy alcove to a stylish social hub was truly deserving the time and money required. I now have a space that I am truly happy to share with to others. Reading has some great venues to visit for a cocktail, but honestly, I now prefer being at home and using my own private bar. It provides the same feel without the crowds or the commute. That itself was worth the whole project. I am so pleased with how the ambience functions in the evening, creating a relaxing space to unwind after a busy day at work. It is the little treats like this that render home living much pleasant and fulfilling. I highly value the bespoke home bar craft that went into the final product. The way the doors close with a silent thud speaks plenty about the build level. No detail was overlooked, and the total look is exactly what I hoped it would be when I originally began this process. It is a testament to the talent of the fitters and the standard of the materials utilised. I am a very satisfied client.
